Do you want to form a student union?

Who can apply?

“A group that can represent the university's students and that has formed an association according to certain criteria. This group's area or areas of activity at the university must coincide with and correspond to all the university's educational programmes, and it may not be active at another higher education institution.”

What counts as a student association?

“The term ‘student association’ means an association that has members, which has adopted statutes, and has appointed a board of directors in accordance with the statutes. More information can be found on the website (Editor’s Note: see the link below) about what should be included in the statutes. There are six items. The association needs to have a sufficiently large connection to the university's students that the board believes that it can represent the students, but it is possible to have supporting members who are not students.”

What should be included in the application?

“The organisation and the statutes must be described. For example, it must also be clear how the group is to provide student representatives to the university's decision-making or advisory bodies, such as the Governing Board of the University of Borås. A plan regarding student welfare must also be included. There are more items that need to be included in the application; all are clearly described on the website, and if you have any questions, you can contact me.”

Why is standing as a student union reassessed every three years?

“The government has considered that three years is a reasonable time period.”

Who decides which applying association becomes a student union?

“The Governing Board of the University of Borås makes this decision.”
