The assignment as Counsellor to the Vice-Chancellor will be carried out by Martin G. Eriksson, former Dean of the Faculty of Librarianship, Information, Education and IT, and means that he will be an advisor to the Vice-Chancellor on how the university can strengthen and develop the university's international relations linked to the quality of education and research, as well as assisting with analysis of the international context.

"This is an important assignment. It is meaningful that we keep up with what is happening in higher education internationally in order to be able to be on track, and it is also important to investigate the importance of cluster collaboration with other higher education institutions in Europe – which is what the European Universities is about – as well as the issue of ranking systems for education and research. Many higher education institutions have already invested a lot of resources in this," said Vice-Chancellor Mats Tinnsten.

The university has several different functions that work with internationalisation issues, such as the Internationalisation Council, the Faculty Coordinators for Internationalisation, and the International Office, but these cover other types of tasks and issues. The main task of the Counsellor to the Vice-Chancellor for International Relations is to act as an advisor to the Vice-Chancellor on these issues, where collaboration between all our functions in internationalisation is of course an advantage.
