SSLIS works together to migrate from Box

Karen Nowé Hedvall, Head of Department, explained:

“On 13 June, we have booked a half-day for all of us who need to migrate files from Box as well as some premises at the university so we can all do this together. Breakfast is on us. We start the day with a joint short briefing by representatives from the IT Office and the Registrar’s Office. Then we will do 45 minutes of our own work with migration, with 15 minute-breaks to talk and have coffee together, in two or three sessions. If there are any questions during this time, we will collect them during the breaks and contact the IT Office.”

Why are you doing this?

“We understand that there are a lot of questions despite good information on the website, and that time to migrate your data during the academic year is lacking.

What about the name Shut Up and Migrate?

“We have previous experience with the ‘Shut Up and Write’ model both within the department and centrally at the university, and a few years ago we organised a session under the slogan ‘Shut Up and Fix Your Research Page’ to draw attention to the importance of keeping it up to date. Hence the name ‘Shut Up and Migrate’. Participation is voluntary, but an opportunity to get a little help for those who, like myself, are procrastinating on this task.”

IT tips

  • Consider whether the information can be deleted or must be kept.
  • Ensure the correct storage location according to the storage rules for the information you are moving.
  • Check that the files have been transferred correctly to the new storage space and that they can be opened without problems. Do spot checks on different files to ensure that everything is working properly.

On the employee website, you will find more detailed information on the advice above, a checklist for the migration to new storage, as well as frequently asked questions and answers.
