Borås as a student city

The modern student city of Borås

Borås is a perfect mix of a big city and a small one. With short distances to everything as well as close proximity to beautiful scenic surroundings, it’s easy to have a rich study experience and enjoyable free time.

Borås is a city in southwestern Sweden, located approximately 60 kilometres east of Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city. Borås has a population of around 113,000. Western Sweden’s main international airport is within easy access of Borås and there are many train and bus connections linking Borås with destinations all over Sweden and Europe.

In our lovely city centre, you will find shopping as well as museums and exhibitions, theatres, concert spaces, and sports arenas. With several large parks and outdoor areas, you can exercise, swim, or have a relaxing day enjoying nature. A unique and exciting aspect to the city is the outdoor exhibition No Limit Street Art, in which street art artists from all over the world have decorated Borås in murals, sculptures, and installations!

Those who are interested in sports can find a lot to offer in Borås. The area around "Knalleland" has numerous athletic facilities including the Borås Arena, built in 2005. The arena is home of the football club Elfsborg, champions of the top Swedish league in 2012. It is also a venue for concerts and other events.

If you prefer the countryside, you’re in luck. After a short bus or cycle ride from the city centre, you will find forests, lakes and large areas of farmland.

In Borås, there is always something going on! Check out the calendar on the City of Borås's website (external link) or read about activities and offers on Borås TME, a special website for students (external link).

Some fun things you can do in Borås are to go-karting at Regementet, visit the zoo, grill by Lake Almenäs or Lake Kypesjön, or play the popular racquet sport padel.
