Hampus explores textile innovation in an international environment

In the Bachelor’s programme in Textile Production and Innovation, he studies alongside students from around the world, a learning experience that has broadened both his perspective on the global textile industry and his understanding of different cultures.

“The main reason I chose to study the Bachelor’s programme in Textile Production and Innovation was the Swedish School of Textiles. I've known for a long time that I wanted to study textiles at this school, but it was kind of a coincident that I applied to this particular programme. I had just finished my military service in Sweden and wasn’t planning to start studying directly after that. But then I saw that this programme was open for late application in the middle of summer, so I applied and hoped for the best. I've always had an interest in textiles, fashion, and innovation, but I knew it could be a very competitive market, especially in fashion. I thought studying something more technical, but still in the textile industry, could be interesting!”

Do you see any added value studying in an international programme?

“I went to a high school with an international profile where we worked a lot with UN-related activities and part of my education was in English. I thought it could be a good way of keeping up with the language as well as broadening my future possibilities. I knew that much of the textile industry is located outside Sweden and that my future job might be in other countries. I believed that by studying in English with international students from all over the world, would not only be good for my future career, but also very interesting when it comes to how people from other countries see the textile industry. Personally, I’m really interested in culture, and studying with international students is a fun way to get to know other cultures as well!”

What would you like to work with in the future?

“During my military service as a paramedic, I came across a lot of new ways to see and vision textiles. Since then, I've had a strong interest in technical textiles related to the military, such as tents, camouflage nets, and uniforms. So, one thing I would like to work with is textiles adapted for the military. I would also like to work with smart and technical textiles in the medical field. As an athlete, I have a great interest in medical rehabilitation as well as in athletic wear. So, I'm not a hundred percent sure yet what I want to work with in the future, but my top three I would say are the military-, the medical field, and athletic wear.”
