Eco-Theology and Environmental Ethics in Religious Education

Eco-Theology and Environmental Ethics in Religious Education

This project focus on exploring religious movements of environmental ethics and diving into contemporary influential theologians of Jewish, Christian and Islamic Ecotheology.

In the year 2015, Pope Francis issued an environmental encyclical that spread far beyond the religious sphere. Theological engagement for sustainability even became a theme in mass media. Environmental issues have increasingly become in center of Western education, but is often connected with Nature Sciences or Social Sciences, far less of Religious Education and Ecotheology. Still, in contemporary Jewish, Christian and Muslim youth movements environmental issues are becoming increasingly important. Eco-theological perspectives bring a fresh incitement for Religious Education to include and highlighting one of the most vibrant and important youth movements of the 21st century – the cry for a sustainable earth for the next generation.
