Existential issues and needs during the childbearing period

Existential issues and needs during the childbearing period

In order for care during childbearing period to become caring, in the sense that it supports and strengthens health and well-being, a change is required, from an overly one-sided focus on risk, illness and diagnoses, to a focus on childbirth as an existential life event that gains significance in the life of the individual woman and her partner - an existential perspective.

The project intends to contribute to this change through a deepened understanding of how existential questions and needs can become important for caring during the childbearing period.

In the project, the lived experiences of the woman, the partner and carers will therefore be made visible and reflected. Knowledge will be developed about how the midwife and other caregivers can support and strengthen health and well-being with a focus on existential questions and needs. Within the project, knowledge will also be developed about how didactics and learning can be developed that take into account existential questions and needs in care.
