JuTech™ - Jute-Load-Carrier
Start date: 2026-06-01
End date: 2026-11-15
The study focuses on structured fibreboards with a minimum jute content of 85%, combined with fossil-free bio-based binders and additives, designed to meet automotive requirements for mechanical performance, moisture and temperature resistance, flame retardancy, durability, cost efficiency and circularity.
The project targets applications such as vehicle load floors and evaluates compliance with automotive standards and the EU End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) Directive. Building on previous research and proof-of-concept results, the pre-study integrates advanced material treatments and optimized fibre architectures while excluding fossil-based components.
Using a structured methodology including workshops, laboratory preparation and multicriteria evaluation, 3–5 promising material and process solutions will be identified, prototyped and tested. Technical, environmental, economic, social and legal aspects will be assessed in collaboration between Juteborg Sweden AB, the University of Borås and Polestar.
The outcome will be new knowledge, selected material concepts, identified research challenges and a feasibility report that provides the foundation for a subsequent scaleup and implementation project aimed at industrial application within the Swedish automotive sector.
