Doctors
For the doctoral conferment ceremony on 3 May 2024, those who have received a doctoral degree during the period 1 February 2023– 31 January 2024 are invited.
Rehearsal and dinner 2 May
On 2 May, we will conduct a rehearsal before the ceremony. It is important that you attend. In the evening, you and the other participants in the ceremony are invited to a relaxed dinner hosted by the Vice-Chancellor.
Ceremony, reception, and banquet 3 May
The ceremony itself lasts about an hour and begins with a processional in which all those being conferred a doctor’s degree or installed as professor are expected to participate. Participants will enter the ceremony hall together in a predetermined order. The ceremony will be followed by a reception where you can mingle with the audience and then a banquet for ceremony participants and specially invited guests. You are invited to the banquet together with one guest, free of charge. You also have the opportunity to invite two additional guests for whom there will be a cover charge.
In February, you will receive a formal invitation to the ceremony with more information about the banquet and the opportunity to RSVP for your accompanying guests.
Dress code
For new doctors participating in the ceremony, formal attire is in order.
- White tie, a white waistcoat and white bow tie apply. Traditional folk costumes are also welcome, but not tuxedos, dark suits or military uniform. Patent leather shoes are the main choice for a tailcoat, but plain black shoes are also fine.
- Formal floor-length gown/skirt or formal trouser suit. Colour and pattern of your choice. No open-toed shoes.
For your accompanying guests, the dress code is formal wear or a dark suit.
Professors
The installation of professors is one of the main events. This means that new professors are welcomed during a solemn ceremony. This year, those who became professors within the period 1 February 2023–31 January 2024 will be installed.
Inaugural lecture 2 May
As a new professor, you are expected to give an open inaugural lecture in connection with the ceremony. The inaugural lectures take place on 4 May. The lecture, on the topic of your research, must accessible to a general audience and 30 minutes long. You may decide for yourself whether you wish to give the lecture in Swedish or English.

Academic Ceremony publication - text and photo
In advance of the ceremony, you will write a text present yourself and your research. We will also photograph you for this ceremonial publication and for communication on the website and in social media.
Docents/Associate Professors
For the Academic Ceremony 2024, we welcome those who have been named Docent/Associate Professor at the University of Borås within the period 1 February 2023–31 January 2024.

The ceremony itself lasts about an hour and begins with a processional in which all those being conferred a doctor’s degree or installed as professor participate. All employees holding a doctorate are also welcome to join the procession. During the ceremony itself, lecturers have reserved seats at the front of the stage and are recognised with diplomas and flowers on stage. The ceremony will be followed by an opportunity to mingle with the audience and then a banquet for ceremony participants and specially invited guests. New Docents/Associate Professors are invited to the banquet, free of charge. They also have the opportunity to invite one additional guest for whom there will be a cover charge.

Winner(s) of the Pedagogical Prize
The university is to provide high quality education that promotes student learning. Through the Pedagogical Prize, which was established in 1992, the university seeks to recognise teachers who make a difference to student learning through conscious pedagogical efforts.
The winner(s) (the teacher/teaching team) of the Pedagogical Prize will be invited to the Academic Ceremony 2024.
