Simonsland - Information for tenants
Welcome to your home in Simonsland. On this page, you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about Simonsland, to help you make the most of your stay.
Rental Agreement
I would like to terminate my housing contract early.
Please email studenthousing@hb.se to book an appointment.
Please note that apartments at Simonsland have a three-month notice period.
Can I get a copy of my signed housing contract?
Yes.
Email studenthousing@hb.se, and we will send you a copy of your signed housing contract.
Rent & Payments
How can I check if my rent payment has been received?
Our Finance Office reviews all rent payments at the end of each month.
If there is a missing or incorrect payment, you will be contacted by email. If you do not hear from us, your payment has been received successfully.
We do not send monthly payment confirmations.
Do I have to pay my rent in SEK?
Yes. All rent payments must be made in Swedish Kronor (SEK).
I cannot find the bank account or IBAN details on my invoice.
Your rent invoice includes:
- Bank name
- Account number
- IBAN
- BIC/SWIFT code
These details are located at the bottom of the invoice below the total amount.
Please note that only one invoice is issued per semester.
Where can I find my monthly rent amount?
Your monthly rent is stated in your housing contract.
- If you pay rent monthly, use the monthly amount shown in your contract.
- If you pay for the entire semester at once, pay the total amount shown on your invoice.
Can someone else (for example, my parents) pay my rent?
Yes.
The payment can be made from any bank account, but the transfer must include your full name so that we can identify your payment.
I will arrive in mid-August, September, or February. Can I start paying rent from my arrival date?
No.
Housing at Simonsland is rented for the full 5.5-month contract period, regardless of your arrival date.
Keys
I have lost my key. What should I do?
Email studenthousing@hb.se immediately.
Lost keys must be reported. You will be charged for the replacement key and lock change, and an appointment with a locksmith will be arranged.
When do I have to return my keys?
All keys must be returned no later than 9:00 a.m. on the day your rental agreement ends.
Maintenance & Repairs
I have a problem in my apartment (e.g. broken fridge, freezer, drain, shower rail, mirror, etc.). Who should I contact?
If the issue concerns the apartment itself (not the furniture provided by the University), please report it directly to Bostäder i Borås.
You can:
- Submit a maintenance request through My Pages (Mina Sidor) on their website, or
- Call +46 33 44 22 00 during office hours.
One of the University-provided furniture items is broken. Who should I contact?
If any of the following items are damaged:
- Bed
- Desk
- Desk chair
- Bookshelf
- Armchair
- Small table
- Floor lamp
- Desk lamp

Emergency Maintenance Issues
Emergency maintenance issues must be reported immediately to Bostäder i Borås, as they may cause damage to the property or make the apartment unsafe or impossible to live in.

Examples of emergency maintenance issues include:
- Flooding or water leaking heavily from a pipe
- A blocked drain or toilet (please check the guidance on blocked drains first)
- A refrigerator or freezer that is not working
- Being locked in or locked out of your apartment
- Damage to the apartment entrance door or building entrance door caused by a break-in
Waste & Recycling
Where can I find paper bags for food waste?
Paper food waste bags are available at Viskastrandsgatan 4, in the metal dispenser to the right of the lift on the ground floor.
Where can I get bags for general waste?
You may use any plastic bag for your residual household waste.
Where can I dispose other items?
If you need to dispose things like:
- Paper
- Plastics
- Metal
- Furniture
- Bicycles
- Electronics
- Paint
- Other bulky waste
The nearest recycling centre is located at:

Opening hours:
- Weekdays: 07:00–16:00
- Weekends: 10:00–15:00
Please remember to bring a valid ID to enter.
Mail & Deliveries
I am expecting a large parcel or suitcase. Will it be delivered directly to Simonsland?
We recommend contacting the delivery company once you receive your tracking number.
Some deliveries are brought directly to your address, while others are delivered to a collection point.
If home delivery is arranged, you must be present to receive the package, as delivery personnel cannot access the building without a key tag.
Can the University receive or store my luggage or parcels before I arrive?
Unfortunately, no.
The University does not offer any luggage or parcel storage.
Fire Safety
To ensure everyone’s safety, it is important that all escape routes remain clear. No objects may be stored in stairwells or other common areas, as they can block evacuation routes or prevent emergency services from entering or leaving the building.
Fire safety equipment in your apartment
Each apartment is equipped with one smoke detector installed on the ceiling. The smoke detector can save lives and must not be removed.
If your apartment does not have a smoke detector, please report it through Mina Sidor.
A fire blanket is available in every apartment. Place the fire blanket close to the stove so it is easily accessible in case of an accident.
If your apartment does not have a fire blanket, please report this through Mina Sidor.
My smoke detector is beeping. What should I do?
A beeping smoke detector usually means the battery needs replacing.
Please replace the battery with a new one, available from most grocery stores or hardware shops.
Electricity & Heating
Electricity contract
For questions regarding your electricity contract, please contact Nätkraft Borås, which owns and manages the electricity grid in Borås.
You need to contact them before you move in, to start up your electricity. Email them your rental agreement and move in date to: kund@natkraftboras.se
No electricity / Power outage
If there is no electricity in your apartment:
- Is the power out in the entire apartment? Check the residual current device (RCD).
- Is the power out in one or more rooms only? Check the fuse box.
If all fuses are working and you still do not have electricity, you can report this as an emergency maintenance issue.
Is heating included in the rent?
Yes, heating is included in the rent for apartments at Simonsland.
My apartment feels cold. How do I turn on the heating?
You do not need to do anything.
The heating system operates automatically and adjusts itself according to the indoor and outdoor temperature. Heating starts automatically if the indoor temperature falls below approximately 20°C.
Laundry rooms
Shared laundry rooms are available on floors 1, 3, and 5 at Simonsland. Each laundry room is equipped with 2–3 washing machines and either 1–2 tumble dryers or a larger drying room where you can hang your clothes to dry.
Outside each laundry room, you will find a booking system that can be accessed using your key tag. Please note that the booking system is only available in Swedish. Follow the instructions below to book, cancel, or access a laundry room.
Book a laundry time (Boka tvättpass)
- Move the marker to BOKA.
- Press the green button.
- Select Tvätt (Laundry).
- Press the green button.
- Move the marker to your preferred date and time.
- Press the green button.
- Select YES to confirm the booking and press the green button again.
Cancel a laundry time (Avboka pass)
- Move the marker to Visa/Avboka (View/Cancel).
- Press the green button.
- Move the marker to the booking you wish to cancel.
- Press the green button.
- Select YES to confirm the cancellation and press the green button again.
Open the laundry room (Öppna dörren)
- Move the marker to Öppna (Open).
- Press the green button.
To return to the previous menu at any time, press the red button.
Important Information
- Laundry rooms can only be accessed when they are available or during your booked time slot.
- Please bring your own laundry detergent and other washing supplies.
- Be considerate of other residents and only use the laundry room during your reserved time.
- The laundry rooms are shared facilities. Please leave them clean and tidy after use. Remove lint from the tumble dryer, wipe down countertops and washing machines, clean the detergent and fabric softener compartments, and sweep the floor.
