This education gives you a comprehensive overview of the textile field, suited for those with an education in, for example, economics, technology, marketing, or design. This programme serves as a preparation for a career in the textile and fashion industry.
This programme starts with an introductory course in the well-equipped textile laboratories, which gives you a good insight in textile production. Then follows specialisation courses where you learn to handle the textile value chain and understand how the different parts are linked together and affect each other.
The courses have a strong basis in current research in textile management with a focus on sustainable development in the textile value chain as well as research in adjoining subjects such as business administration and industrial economics.
Research in textile management at the University of Borås is internationally prominent and integrated in the programme through lectures, workshops, and projects. There are also good opportunities to connect with other researchers around the world via international networks and collaborations.
After graduation, the labour market is good and most students use their education to move on to new jobs in the textile and fashion industry.
Education pedagogy is based on the Borås model, which means that students use and develop their information seeking skills in the context of the courses. The study method was inspired by PBL (problem-based learning) and can be described as the independent seeking, analysis, and assessment of information (previous research and other contextually relevant sources) that starts with the issues and themes presented in the courses. Conversely, the student will also learn to, on the basis of new knowledge, identify problems and opportunities and identify interesting questions for the scientific community and for practice. Particular emphasis is placed on the student's ability to bring research results to the industry. Instruction consists of lectures, laboratory exercises, seminars, and project work with individual supervision.
This programme serves to supplement an existing education with competences related to textile management. The career paths thus dependent on the background of the student in terms of undergraduate study. Previous students have found employment as for example CSR manager, Fashion editor, marketing and promotion support, assistant buyer and product development, sourcing manager, quality assurance coordinator, social media specialist, sales manager, content creator, strategic procurement manager, business developer, area controller, managing director, design coordinator, global visual merchandiser as well as establishing their own business.
The programme is held at the Faculty of Textiles, Engineering and Business.
