Master's Programme (Two Year) in Technical Textile Innovation, 120 hp

In the Master's Programme in Technical Textile Innovation, you will deepen your knowledge of textile materials, structures and processes and learn how to apply this knowledge to develop, prototype and evaluate innovative textile products and solutions. The programme is designed for students with a background in textile technology who want to move from understanding textile technologies to applying them in product development, innovation and research.

TAMTI brings together advanced textile technology, product development, design methodology, sustainability and research.

The programme combines technical depth in areas such as fibres and yarns, textile structures, construction and joining, and dyeing and finishing with innovation-oriented subjects including product development, life cycle assessment and circular economy.

Throughout the programme, you progress from advanced knowledge of textile materials, structures and processes towards increasingly independent development and research work. You learn to translate needs and technological opportunities into concepts, prototypes and technical solutions, while working with scientific literature, research methods and sustainability questions.

Laboratory work, prototyping, individual and group projects, problem-based learning and scientific analysis connect these areas throughout the programme. The programme concludes with a 30-credit Master's thesis in Technical Textile Innovation, where you carry out an independent research or development project.

Learn by making, testing and collaborating

At the Swedish School of Textiles, well-equipped industrial-scale and small-scale research laboratories support hands-on learning through laboratory sessions, workshops, prototyping and testing. Student-centred, problem- and project-based learning gives you an active role in defining problems, developing ideas, interpreting results and evaluating evidence.

In selected courses, you study alongside students from the Master's Programme in Textile Engineering and the Master's Programme in Resource Recovery, bringing together different technical and sustainability perspectives. Company-related projects, guest contributions and study visits provide insight into industrial practice, while research-oriented assignments and the Master's thesis connect you with current textile research and development.

Depending on your previous education, interests and Master's thesis, relevant areas of work may include textile and materials R&D, technical product development, advanced and functional textiles, testing and quality, circular textile development, and research-oriented roles in industry or academia. The programme's broad technical perspective is relevant not only to conventional textile companies, but also to organisations developing products and solutions in which textile materials provide important technical functions.
