Resource recovery of industrial residual streams into carbon materials for energy storage
Start date: 2026-04-07
End date: 2028-04-06
Through pyrolysis, residues such as fibre sludge from the paper industry, sawdust, bark and waste wood are converted into hard carbon. The material can be used as the negative electrode in batteries, mainly sodium-ion batteries. The project studies how feedstock properties, processing conditions and post-treatment affect the structure and performance of the material.
The aim is to contribute to sustainable and circular value chains in Sweden, where underused by-products become valuable materials for energy storage.
