The programme deals with polymer materials and how they can be part of a circular economy. It includes the recycling and reuse of polymers, biodegradation, and how polymers accumulate in the ecosystem as well as the development of renewable biopolymers and the development of polymers that work in a circular economy.

The programme covers both the production and applications of plastics, textiles, and composite materials, as well as their properties. Emphasis is on the possibilities of creating polymers from biologically based raw materials and how these are broken down biologically. An important part of the educational programme consists of practical lab components to provide basic skills in processes, characterisation, and testing the properties of materials.

In this Master's programme, you will take part in the university's leading research in resource recovery and textile technology.During the first term, you will gain an understanding of the current status and future trends in the field of resource recovery, both globally and nationally. Business and methodological knowledge such as life cycle analysis are also included. The second term focuses on courses in the polymer field.

The programme ends with a one-year degree project in which you will immerse yourself further in the area that interests you. The degree project can be carried out within the industry or in collaboration with our researchers and doctoral students at the Swedish Centre for Resource Recovery and the Swedish School of Textiles at the University of Borås.

Future career

This educational programme prepares you for professional roles as an engineer, product developer, researcher or manager, where you need knowledge regarding how polymer based materials act in the circular economy as well as the bioeconomy. The programme will also make you a global community builder with the knowledge necessary to take on challenges, and to set up professional networks in the area of polymers and the society.
