I am an Associate Professor, District Nurse and researcher with a strong interest in work, health and organisation in healthcare and aged care. My research is driven by a curiosity about why some workplaces enable people to thrive, develop and remain in their profession, while others struggle with sickness absence, staff turnover and workforce shortages.
My research explores how organisational conditions shape the experiences of healthcare professionals and managers. Particular areas of interest include psychosocial working conditions, leadership, professional identity, work ability, return to work and workforce sustainability.
I obtained my PhD from KTH Royal Institute of Technology with the thesis Organizational Flexibility and Health among Line Managers and Employees in Health Care, which examined how organisational conditions influence the health of managers and employees in healthcare settings.
I currently lead the Forte-funded project Assistant Nurse – A Protected Professional Title, which investigates how the introduction of a protected professional title influences assistant nurses’ psychosocial work environment, occupational status, professional pride and health. I am also affiliated with the University of Gävle and involved in the Can-Work-S project, which examines return to work during and after cancer treatment in collaboration with international researchers.
In addition to research, I teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and serve as co-supervisor for a doctoral student, Anna Granath. I am also Senior Editor of the Journal of Praxis in Higher Education.
I welcome opportunities to collaborate with researchers, practitioners, students and policymakers who share an interest in work, health and sustainable development in healthcare and aged care.
